When Jokes Go Terribly Wrong...

WRITTEN BY: MAVES & DE MAITRE
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mave loves unagi sushi. That’s beside the point. This joker decided to play a prank, a lousy inconsiderate prank- it’s not funny, it’s not hygienic. What kind of cheap thrill can one possibly gain from applying large amounts of wasabi on a sushi, TOUCHING it with his dirty fingers and then hoping that some unknowing victim will savor it? The part that grossed us out was the application of his bare fingers. Who knows what he did before that? Did he dig his nose, lick his fingers or scratch his butt?

De Maitre called him an inconsiderate jerk. But Maves think it’s too mild a term- that boy is plain evil. He’s probably another one of those who have yet to recover from the period of teenage crisis. He was 20 years old when he did this by the way; people at that age are normally much more responsible and level-headed. And what disgusts us the most is the large number of BOYS sitting around giving him the much desired attention and moral support. Talk about birds of a feather flock together, we say they feed together too.

The joker probably has self-worth issues, and has not learnt to deal with it appropriately. Playing a prank on someone else should not make you feel better. If it does, it just exposes your insecurities and low self-esteem. It makes you look pathetic. And the friends who hail you as a hero are even worse than you are. De Maitre calls them spineless toads.

Self-worth issues aside, it’s extremely unhygienic to play such a prank. He could be sued if anyone dies of food poisoning after eating his special sushi. Yes Sakae Sushi will be the first to be held responsible, but this joker was brave enough to upload his video. Thankfully, karma works, Sakae Sushi is now exploring their options as to how to deal with inconsiderate, immature and moronic jerks like him.

Maves understands that boys tend to be less mature than usual when they hang out. It’s their way of interacting with the same sex. No big deal. But there has to be a limit to stupidity (ok maybe not). And apparently, Maves has interacted with enough teenage girls to learn that such jokers are extremely attractive partners to them. Could deviance be an act of courage? Rubbish. Courage is way beyond that and these young people will probably take some years and hardship to realize how shallow they were. Well, that’s if the day of enlightenment ever comes.

De Maitre is upset with the boy (Leonard) and his insensitivity and lack of consideration. However, a sterner glare is directed towards his friends- they should not be encouraging him. The teenage age is a period of peer pressure, so friends should be a positive influence on miscreants like him. It is understood that people need fun and playing pranks on one another. However, there is a need to draw a line when the joke is at the expense of other people’s health or lives. That’s when the joke migrates from innocent fun to plain viciousness.

De Maitre has another crux to bear against netizens who raided Facebook for Leonard’s details [Here]. He may have done bad stuff, having the whole world against him is bad enough; there is no need to destroy his personal life. Like Mahatma Gandhi once said “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”. Maves did a quick search up FB for Leonard, apparently his details are invisible. We assume that he must have been a victim of cyber bullying. We sincerely hope that people will stop the cycle.
